Rice Stadium Houston: Parking, Tickets, and Getting There

Rice Stadium stands at 6100 S Main St on the Rice University campus in Houston. The campus sits beside the METRORail Red Line, which connects downtown Houston, Midtown, the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center, and NRG Park.

METRO bus routes 8, 26/27, 34, and 73, among others, stop within walking distance of campus. If you are planning to combine the game with a visit to Hermann Park’s paths and attractions, account for the separate trip between the campus and the park.

The METRORail Red Line is the clearest transit connection described for Rice Stadium: the campus is adjacent to the line, which serves several central Houston districts and NRG Park. METRO bus routes 8, 26/27, 34, and 73 also stop within walking distance of campus.

A two-star motel in Houston, Raintree Inn and Suites is about a 9-minute drive from Rice University; confirm the best route for your event and travel time.

Every person entering a Rice athletic facility needs a ticket, with children age 2 and under excepted. Rice Athletics says football gates open 90 minutes before kickoff. For basketball, soccer, and volleyball, gates open 60 minutes before game time; for baseball, they open 90 minutes before game time.

Entry timing and event arrangements can vary by sport, so check the official site before you go.

Rice University Parking says a general football pass costs $20 for a single game, whether purchased in advance or on game day at the lot; a season pass costs $100. Rice Athletics says football season-ticket holders who have also given $500 or more to the Owl Club receive preferred parking, with the lot determined by giving level.

For regular-sized vehicles, West Lots 3 and 4 and Greenbriar Lot have tailgating areas in spaces not reserved for donors, buses, or RVs. Tailgating in adjoining parking spaces or traffic lanes is not permitted.

Stadium-adjacent lots open three to four hours before kickoff, according to Rice Parking and Rice Athletics. RV and bus parking is in West Lot 5, southeast of the stadium; that lot opens six hours before kickoff, and vehicles must be parked there at least 90 minutes before the contest.

RV and bus owners should call at least two days ahead. Space is limited and not guaranteed, there are no utility hookups, and vehicles must be self-sustaining. Check Rice Parking and Rice Athletics before your event for current details.

Rice University’s campus bus tracker names a stop called Rice Stadium and gives weekday Inner Loop service hours as 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The tracker does not establish that this service runs for public stadium events, so do not assume it is an event-day shuttle.
